The HACC Appeals Chamber has upheld the first-instance court’s verdict for the former head of the Ternopil Regional Council, Mykhailo Golovko, sentencing him to 9 years in prison for corruption. The panel of judges only partially modified the ruling, removing the charge of illegal possession of ammunition. The former official was taken into custody immediately in the courtroom.
The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court concluded its review of the defense’s appeal against the initial verdict issued on June 18, 2025. The defense had sought to overturn the bribery conviction and the subsequent confiscation of property.
Following the review, the judges decided to exclude the charge of storing military ammunition without a permit from the final indictment. However, regarding the core corruption charges, the original sentence remains entirely unchanged.
Mykhailo Golovko was found guilty of soliciting and receiving an unlawful benefit on an especially large scale. According to the investigation, the bribe amounted to 612,000 hryvnias.
Final sentence for Mykhailo Golovko:
9 years of imprisonment;
Confiscation of all personal property;
A 3-year ban from holding certain public office positions.
The ruling of the Appeals Chamber takes effect immediately upon pronouncement. The convicted former official was placed under guard and escorted into custody directly from the courtroom.
