Ihor Hrynyk has taken charge of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NAAS), replacing Yaroslav Hadzalo after his 13-year tenure. Despite the scientific community’s hopes for reforms following a series of corruption scandals surrounding the previous leadership, the new NAAS president—who has worked within the Academy since the 2000s—carries a contentious record of his own. As Hrynyk gains control over more than 300 state enterprises and tens of thousands of hectares of state land, investigative journalists have highlighted his family’s multi-million-dollar assets that contrast sharply with his official earnings.

According to financial disclosures, Hrynyk’s official annual income prior to his appointment was 728,800 UAH (roughly 60,700 UAH per month). His wife, Olha Hrynyk, who works at the NAAS Institute of Agroecology, earns approximately 31,700 UAH per month (381,200 UAH annually).

Despite the couple’s modest official salaries, their immediate family members own high-value real estate and luxury vehicles across Kyiv and its suburbs:

Wife (Olha): In January 2025, she acquired a nearly 300 sq. m house in Chabany near Kyiv via a gift agreement. In May 2026, she registered a new Volkswagen Touareg valued at approximately $80,000.
Son (Roman): Upon turning 18 in 2017, he received a gift deed for a house exceeding 400 sq. m in Khotiv. He subsequently acquired two apartments in the Obolon district (70.8 and 99.5 sq. m) and registered a new Volkswagen Touareg in July 2026.
Daughter (Liliia, former Supreme Court judicial assistant): In 2018, she acquired two apartments in the elite Botanic Paradise residential complex (124.3 and 173.4 sq. m) estimated at around $800,000. Her portfolio also includes a 62 sq. m apartment in Novosilky and a 2023 BMW X5 ($80,000).

«After 13 years under Yaroslav Hadzalo, Hrynyk’s appointment initially appeared to be a positive shift, yet billions in state land assets are once again under the control of an official linked to past investigations.»

Notably, Hrynyk and his predecessor Hadzalo were both implicated in a criminal case involving the unlawful alienation of NAAS land in the village of Hatne near Kyiv, though the SAPO later dropped the charges. Hadzalo himself evaded conviction for years despite ongoing inquiries into bribery and land schemes. The new leadership’s oversight of state resources remains under heightened public and regulatory scrutiny.
