History of the party
The party was registered in 2008 under the name “Ukraine of the Future”.
At different times, the party was headed by Andriy Pavlenko, who is related to the daughter of the leader of the Batkivshchyna party, Yevhenia Tymoshenko, and the former head of the Dnipro Regional Council, MP of the 5th and 6th convocations, Sviatoslav Oliynyk, who was called “ Kolomoisky‘s man.” In total, the party has changed six leaders since its inception.
“Ukraine of the Future” failed twice in the parliamentary elections: in 2012, the party gained 0.18%, and in 2014 — 0.08%.
In 2016, Stanislav Nikitin, who, according to Slidstvo.info, was a lawyer for Andriy Portnov, the former deputy head of the Presidential Administration under Viktor Yanukovych, became the party’s chairman.
In the 2019 parliamentary elections, “Ukraine of the Future” participated only formally — it did not nominate candidates, but had 84 representatives in DECs.
In August 2019 , atthe beginning of the work of the new Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation, the For the Future parliamentary group was created. It consisted of 23 majoritarian MPs representing various political forces — from ex-regionalists, members of the parties “Vidrodzhennia”, UKROP and “Nash Krai” to former members of the BPP and Narfron. Most of them are involved in anti-corruption investigations. The co-chairs of the group are Taras Batenko, head of UKROP , and Viktor Bondar, former head of the Revival party.
In October 2019 , the party “Ukraine of the Future” was renamed “For the Future”.
On May 20, 2020, members of the For the Future group announced the creation of a party of the same name. They “dedicated” thefounding congress to the first anniversary of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s presidency, stating that a year had passed, “and we have not seen any changes for the better,” and announced their participation in the upcoming local elections.
Ihor Palytsia, a close friend and business partner of oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky, who until recently was a member of the presidium of the UKROP party, also affiliated with Kolomoisky, became the new head of the party.
Since then, the transformation of UKROP into Za Maybutnye has begun. In particular, the party’s social media pages were renamed to “For the Future”.
“Ukrayinska Pravda called For the Future a typical oligarchic parliamentary group. In particular, the party received contributions from a company affiliated with Kolomoisky’s Privat group, which had previously financed the UKROP. In addition, the party’s leader, Ihor Palytsia, frequently appeared on the Kolomoisky-owned 1+1 TV channel. Officially, representatives of “For the Future” denied any connection with Kolomoisky.
At the same time, UP wrote that the For the Future MPs were divided into three subgroups controlled by Kolomoiskyi, Palytsia, and former Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, respectively.
Representatives of the party often criticized the current government in their rhetoric, but they do not consider themselves an opposition and, according to Palytsia, were ready to help Zelensky, in particular with personnel in the Cabinet and in the regions.
In the early summer of 2020, three majoritarian MPs associated with billionaire Yuriy Kosiuk left the For the Future faction in the Rada and joined theDoviragroup. At the same time, in June and July, five MPs joined the group, including two previously expelled from theServantofthe Peoplefaction (Anton Polyakov and Anna Skorokhod).
In the local elections in the fall of 2020 , “For the Future” came in fourth place, receiving a total of 11.42% of seats (3773 MPs) across Ukraine. In particular, 92 candidates from “For the Future” became heads of localities, including 14 mayors.
According to Ukrayinska Pravda, since mid-2021, Ihor Palytsia has gradually become the real leader and sponsor of the For the Future group, even as he and Kolomoisky parted ways in business. At the same time, there were situations in the Rada when the so-called “Kolomoisky group” voted separately from Palytsia’s people.
