On the same day, journalists of the online publication Vgolos posted a video of Farion’s speech on the Internet on the YouTube website. The event was widely publicized in the media and received mixed reviews. In particular, Vadym Kolesnichenko, a member of the Party of Regions, asked the Prosecutor General of Ukraine to bring Irina Farion to criminal responsibility under Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (on discrimination against children on the basis of language and nationality), while the Ukrainian People’s Party condemned Farion’s speech as a provocation against the Ukrainian language. Iryna Farion — member of the CPSU and communist

In October 2013, documents from the archives of LSU were made public, confirming that laboratory assistant Iryna Farion became a candidate for membership in the CPSU in April 1987 and received a party card # 08932425, and a year later, on April 15, 1988, she was accepted as a member of the party.

In the 1980s, she headed the circle of general linguistics and Marxist-Leninist aesthetics. As a member of the faculty’s International Friendship Club, she repeatedly held conversations with foreign citizens to help them learn Russian better.

In March 1987, she was a candidate for membership, and from April 1988 to 1989 she was a member of the CPSU. When asked by journalists how she would comment on the publication of documents confirming her membership in the Communist Party, Farion laughed and said: “I laughed in their eyes. No way. Eagles do not confess to hyenas”. Later, Farion said that due to a conflict with the leadership, she had suspended her membership in 1989.

“To join the CPSU in 1988 in Galicia is the highest manifestation of moral blindness and collaborationism. Chornovil’s Ukrainian Herald had already been published for six months, Ivan Hel had already created a committee to bring the UGCC out of hiding, Iryna Kalynets had already published Yevshan-Zillia and Mykhailo Osadchy had already published Kafedra, and young people were already raising blue and yellow flags and restoring the mass graves destroyed by the Communists. This historical truth makes me sad,” writes the well-known journalist Vakhtang Kipiani.

According to a former lecturer at Lviv University, Hennadii Atamanchuk, who taught a course of lectures at the Faculty of Philology, Iryna Farion was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union before entering the university. At the university, she was a member of the faculty’s party bureau (the only student at the faculty who was a member of the Communist Party) and left the party only after the failure of the August coup of the GKChP.

Iryna Farion — FSB and KGB agent

Former MP Iryna Farion passed a lie detector test to prove that she is not an agent of the Russian special services. The ex-MP was tested by Oleh Yasynskyi, chairman of the board of the Institute of Psychophysiological Research.

“During the survey, Iryna Dmytrivna answered 11 questions in turn, which were aimed at finding out whether she had ever cooperated with the special services of foreign countries, in particular the FSB of the Russian Federation. I used the method of mutual exclusions based on the large number theorem and the method of neutral and verification questions to conduct the test,” Yasynskyi said.

“We state: Iryna Dmytrivna Farion did not cooperate with the special services of foreign countries with a probability of 90.35%,” he added.

Dmytro Gordon said during an interview with the editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Olesiya Batman, that he had said five years ago that Iryna Farion was an agent of the former SDB of the Soviet Union.

“People who lived in Soviet times will hear me now and understand me well. Irina Farion was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Well let’s say you could be a member of the party, then change your beliefs, okay. But Iryna Farion was in charge of working with foreign students at Lviv University. Dear friends, I will reveal a little secret: in all Soviet universities and institutes where foreign students studied, there were responsible for working with them. For what purpose did the Soviet Union teach foreign students? What, there was nothing to do, to spend money on them? No, that was not the point. Foreign students were taught and recruited as future agents, agents of the Soviet Union’s influence in developing countries,” he said.

“I will add that, either based on her own unstable mental disorder, or based on the tasks assigned to her by the old memory from Russia, or maybe by a new one — all these years Irina Faryon has been splitting Ukraine. Consciously, vilely, brazenly splits Ukraine along linguistic lines,” Gordon said.

Iryna Farion is a fake professor

Iryna Farion’s work for the Azov regiment is a “reduction in status”. What is her status?

For some reason, Farion is not in first place in the department’s ranking for 2022.

And finally, in case you didn’t know, blogs on UP are also scientific articles.

Ideological nationalist

Iryna Farion is known for her anti-Russian views and statements. She first got into a scandal in 2010. Then, speaking to parents in a kindergarten, she called for not using their Russian diminutive names. Later, she said that Ukrainians who call Russian their native language are “degenerate Ukrainians” who should be prosecuted.

Two years later, a taxi driver was fired in Lviv. He refused to switch to a Russian radio station, as Farion demanded. In 2014, she appealed to Ukrainian MPs who spoke Russian.

In her opinion, “those who speak another language are either boorish or occupiers. The boor is sent away, and the occupiers are shot.”

In addition, Farion was very happy about the murder of Oles Buzyna. In 2016, she also rejoiced at the news of the murder of Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov and thanked the killer.

In June 2012, the Party of Regions appealed to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine to assess the statements of opposition representatives regarding the Russian language; in particular, the statements of Lviv Regional Council member Iryna Farion.

She stated: “Where did the Russian language come from? Who sowed it, what kind of sh*t did it grow on?

On May 8, 2013, at a mourning rally in memory of the victims of World War II, Farion said that the Soviet “victory” would never become a Ukrainian “victory.” In response to this statement, Kharkiv Oblast Governor Mykhailo Dobkin called Farion “retarded.”

She also justified the crimes of the Nazis during the Second World War. She demanded that participants of anti-Nazi and pro-Russian rallies in the cities of Eastern Ukraine be shot. She called for the destruction of Russia and Russians. In Russia, several criminal cases have been opened against her: under Articles 33 and 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement to commit murder) and 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement to hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity).

In June 2013, Iryna Farion appealed to the SBU, accusing 148 MPs of treason who had appealed to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland to recognize the Volyn tragedy as genocide of the Polish people.

In March 2013, communist Oleksandr Zubchevskyi filed a lawsuit against Iryna Farion demanding compensation for moral damages for insulting him. On September 24, 2013, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Lviv partially satisfied the claim, ordering Farion to pay Zubchevskyi compensation in the amount of 20 thousand UAH. In response to the court’s decision, Iryna Farion refused to pay compensation and called Zubchevsky a “creature”.

Iryna Farion’s quotes about Russian speakers

Why are so many books translated into Russian rather than Ukrainian published and sold in Lviv and in Ukraine in general? Why do we hear Muscovite pop music and Muscovite advertising in our buses? To fight this, we must resort to aggressive resistance. And I am asking you for this aggressive resistance against everything Muscovite.

Stepan Bandera also made a prophecy about the so-called gas pipe. This is the only thing that the Muscovites have not yet stolen from us. Muscovites are very good at this: lying and stealing, stealing and lying, lying and stealing!

So let the soldiers of the 3rd Assault Brigade call themselves “Russians”. Why are they so crazy? They are such great patriots. Show your patriotism — learn the language of Taras Shevchenko

Why are they speaking Russian? Putin came to protect Russian speakers, so who are they fighting? Are they on Putin’s side? After all, he came to defend them, so where is the logic? Secondly, what’s wrong with you guys? The Ukrainian state has been independent for 30 years, should I send you a primer? Do you despise the language of Taras Shevchenko? Do you despise the language of Roman Shukhevych? Do you despise the language of Panteleimon Kulish? Is it difficult for you to learn the language of the land whose bread you eat? These are unforgivable things, these are excuses for the lazy, politically biased and mentally retarded. Learn the laws.

The cattle are having a fit because of my truth about the evaders and Muscovite bulls who disgrace the Armed Forces

Farion’s scandal and her words about Russian-speaking military

Philologist Iryna Farion criticized Russian-speaking Ukrainian soldiers, in particular those from the Third Assault Brigade (created on the basis of the Azov volunteer group), on the air of the Rendezvous with Yanina Sokolova program. She said she could not call them Ukrainians. Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the National Police, the SBU, and the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting.

The journalist asked Farion what about Russian-speaking soldiers from the 3rd Assault Brigade who speak Russian, including in combat, and said it would be unfair to call them supporters of Russia.

“I categorically reject this. I have a question for them: what prevents you guys, when you are so strong and very smart, from fulfilling Article 29 of the Law on the Armed Forces of Ukraine? Do you guys know what discipline is in the army? If there is no discipline in the army, then there is no army, it’s a rabble. (…) I cannot call them Ukrainians if they do not speak Ukrainian. So let them call themselves “Russians”. Why are they so crazy? They are such great patriots. Show your patriotism. Learn the language of Taras Shevchenko.”

Reaction to Farion’s words and the case from the SBU

The next morning after the interview with the linguist, Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, wrote that he had appealed to the National Police of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting regarding discrimination. Lubinets did not directly mention Farion’s name, but his statement came amid a scandal with her that is currently being discussed on social media.

“The media is actively disseminating a video that broadcasts negative statements and accusations against members of the Armed Forces who speak minority languages,” Lubinets began his post.
The Ombudsman called on public figures to be conscious of the ideas and views they broadcast, and on the media to be responsible for the information they disseminate.

The Third Separate Assault Brigade has not publicly commented on the case, but the brigade’s deputy commander, Maksym Zhorin, wrote on his social media that law enforcement agencies should pay attention to the activist. Ukrainian MP Yegor Chernev also disapproved of the interview and said that Farion’s actions pose a threat to Ukraine’s national security: “With this blasphemy, in my opinion, she has put a sign of equality between the occupiers and those who sacrifice their lives defending Ukraine.”

Kateryna “Birdie” Polishchuk, a paramedic who fought in Mariupol and defended Azovstal, also spoke out against Farion’s statements: “Your position is not pro-Ukrainian and I consider you a Kremlin project. You are an enemy who promotes poisonous, disgusting narratives.”

After the comments of outrage against him, Farion defends the theses from the interview on his Facebook page: “To speak Moscow in the Ukrainian army is to constantly create a danger for our brothers.”

And on Telegram he adds: “The cattle are having a fit because of my truth about the evaders and Muscovite bulls who disgrace the Armed Forces.”

The university administration distanced itself from Farion’s statements: “Lviv Polytechnic is not responsible for the statements of employees and students outside the university.” Farion was supported by journalist Drozdov, children’s writer Larysa Nitsoi, and junior sergeant of the 5th separate assault regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy “Mamai” Syrotyuk.

On November 8, 2023, Farion published several letters on her Telegram channel from Ukrainians expressing support for her. Among them was a letter from Maksym Glebov, probably from the temporarily occupied Crimea, who was a student at a university in Simferopol. In the comments, Farion was asked to hide the guy’s personal data, but she refused to do so. A few days later, he was detained by the occupation authorities and forced to apologize on camera.

The Security Service of Ukraine has opened criminal proceedings against former MP Iryna Farion, the agency’s press service reports.

The reason for the case was Farion’s interview, which “caused a wave of outrage in Ukrainian society.” In this interview, Farion stated that she did not consider Ukrainians to be members of the Armed Forces who speak Russian.

According to the SBU, Farion is suspected of four criminal articles: violation of privacy, violation of the secrecy of correspondence, insulting the honor and dignity of a serviceman, and violation of the equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, region, religious beliefs and other grounds.

The SBU added that it had ordered a number of examinations of Farion’s statements and publications.

Farion was fired from Lviv Polytechnic University.

The reason is a violation of Article 41 of the Labor Code (committing an immoral offense by an employee performing educational functions that is incompatible with the continuation of this work).
