The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) is investigating criminal proceedings against Member of Parliament Yevhen Petrunyak, a member of the «Razumkov’s Smart Politics» inter-factional group and the «Servant of the People» faction. The politician is suspected of submitting knowingly false information in his asset declarations for 2022 and 2023. As part of proceeding No. 42025000000000295 under Part 1 of Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, detectives conducted searches at the MP’s property in mid-August.
The grounds for initiating the case were audit findings by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP). In the official’s 2022 declaration, experts uncovered violations exceeding UAH 7.3 million. A substantiated conclusion regarding these findings was forwarded to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
During the review of the 2023 financial report, the agency recorded an additional UAH 3.6 million in undisclosed assets. Specifically, the lawmaker failed to declare $100,000 (approximately UAH 3.6 million at the NBU exchange rate at the time), received as partial payment for the sale of a residential house in the village of Zubra near Lviv. According to NACP materials, the total transaction value is $1 million under an installment plan through 2027, and the undeclared amount was an advance payment.
Furthermore, Petrunyak misrepresented data regarding Spanish real estate, declaring his wife’s apartment as 130.8 square meters instead of its actual size of 185 square meters.
Auditors also raised questions regarding the financial assets of the MP’s wife. Verification failed to confirm the origin of more than 1 million Polish zlotys listed as advance payments to Polish construction companies, as well as over $30,000 held in Polish bank accounts. The lawmaker explained the discrepancies by stating he entered the figures based on his wife’s words and that supporting documentation remains abroad.
Despite the ongoing investigation, the family continued substantial spending: in 2024, the couple spent UAH 3 million on new vehicles out of a total declared annual income of UAH 5.4 million.
Background: Yevhen Petrunyak was elected to the Verkhovna Rada from the «Servant of the People» party. Prior to his election, he practiced law for nearly 20 years, managed the «Lex-K» law firm, and graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
If proven guilty of false asset declaration, the MP faces fines, community service, or restriction of liberty, along with a temporary ban on holding public office.
