Former Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Dmytro Verbytskyi, who is currently under investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) for alleged illicit enrichment, has relocated to Odesa and secured a mobilization deferment due to his enrollment in post-graduate studies. This was reported by journalist Volodymyr Boiko. Despite his status in the anti-corruption probe, Verbytskyi has not yet been officially served with a notice of suspicion.

According to the source, after resigning from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the military-eligible Dmytro Verbytskyi returned to his hometown of Odesa. There, he registered with the Khadzhybeyskyi District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCC).

In November 2024, the former official obtained a formal deferment from military conscription by submitting documentation proving his enrollment in a PhD program. The former prosecutor is currently reportedly preparing to defend his dissertation in the field of law.

Criminal case No. 52024000000000231 was registered by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) on May 13, 2024. The investigation focuses on potential illicit enrichment, specifically involving high-value real estate transactions.

«The criminal proceedings against Verbytskyi involve an episode regarding his purchase of a house in the ‘Konyk’ cottage community for 2 million UAH, which is six times below the current market value.»

According to the case files, Dmytro Verbytskyi allegedly received this substantial discount from the developer in exchange for official leniency. Investigators are looking into whether the price reduction was a quid pro quo for blocking a pre-trial investigation into the developer’s violations of environmental regulations.

At present, NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) are continuing to gather evidence; however, no official charges or indictments have been handed down to the former Deputy Prosecutor General.
