Gambling operator Betking has found itself at the center of a high-profile scandal involving millions in regulatory fines, license revocation proceedings, and investigative reports alleging financial misconduct. Despite the company’s aggressive efforts to whitewash its image through sports sponsorships and charitable initiatives, its legal future in Ukraine now hangs in the balance in court.

The Betking brand entered the Ukrainian market in late 2024, functioning as the successor to Slotoking following a corporate rebranding. The name change occurred amidst penalties and scrutiny from financial monitoring authorities. According to media reports, the project is linked to businessman Pavlo Zhurylo, whose name has previously surfaced in investigations concerning offshore schemes and unofficial financial operations.
Furthermore, investigative outlets have highlighted that the company allegedly used the Solana cryptocurrency for transactions and may have maintained ties with Russian counterparties. These claims currently remain media assertions and await official verification by law enforcement.
Pressure on the operator escalated significantly. The regulatory body PlayCity repeatedly imposed financial sanctions on Betking for systematic violations of licensing requirements.
Over 4.7 million UAH — total fines levied against the company.
Initiation of license revocation — the extreme measure launched by the regulator.
The process to strip the company of its operating rights is currently stayed due to ongoing litigation, leaving Betking’s future operations pending a final court decision.
From an investigative report by Antikor:
«Sources point to a potential corruption scheme surrounding the company, including alleged payments to officials for facilitating casino operations and the involvement of certain businessmen in money laundering.»
(Note: These statements reflect media allegations and are not supported by final court convictions).
In parallel with its legal troubles and reputational risks, Betking launched an aggressive social and sponsorship campaign. The operator actively invests in Ukrainian football clubs, acts as an official partner of La Liga in Ukraine, and runs humanitarian initiatives through its charitable foundation.
Market analysts and critics argue that this heightened media presence in the social sector serves as a classic strategy to drown out negative coverage and reshape public perception around a controversial gambling business.
