  3. Public Scrutiny Mounts Over Appearance and Alleged Wealth of Acting Border Guard Service Chief Valeriy Vavryniuk

Unverified reports circulating online have raised allegations regarding the acting head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS), Valeriy Vavryniuk. Social media users are highlighting visual changes by comparing archival photos with his recent official portrait, while separate claims allege his involvement in a scheme involving recurring payments from subordinates.

Vavryniuk, who serves as the First Deputy and acting head of the SBGS, previously led the agency’s Western Regional Directorate. The Ministry of Internal Affairs recently updated his official photograph on its portal, sparking public commentary due to the noticeable difference from images taken at the time of his initial appointment.

Informational channels and media posts claim that Vavryniuk’s personal assets have grown steadily since taking office as First Deputy Head. These sources allege that cash transactions routinely take place at a private residence in Lviv.

The reports list several officials and units allegedly involved in these transfers:
Western Regional Directorate: Claims suggest single transactions reaching up to $100,000.
Checkpoint Commanders: Heads of border guard units at the Yahodyn, Ustyluh, Krakovets, Mostyska, Tysa, Luzhanka, Dyakove, and Porubne border crossings are alleged to transfer between $10,000 and $20,000 each on a recurring basis.
Volyn Border Guard Detachment: Reports cite contributions of approximately $10,000.

«The consolidation of this financial portfolio reportedly takes place at a private location in Lviv, pooling regular cash flows from heads of regional units and key border checkpoints,» according to statements published online.

To date, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) have not issued formal statements or served notices of suspicion regarding these claims. However, authors of the circulated reports assert that law enforcement agencies are already aware of the allegations and are reviewing the details.

Neither Valeriy Vavryniuk nor official representatives of the State Border Guard Service have publicly commented on the matter.
