The Menskyi District Court of the Chernihiv Region has granted early parole to Anton Haidur, former judge of the Mizhhiria District Court of the Transcarpathian Region, who was previously sentenced to five years in prison for bribery. The parole decision has officially entered into force after the Supreme Court refused to open a cassation procedure filed by the prosecutor’s office.
Anton Haidur had been serving his sentence at the Menska Correctional Colony No. 91 since May 2022. During his term, he served the majority of his sentence, worked at the facility’s sewing department, received three commendations for a diligent work ethic, and incurred no disciplinary penalties.
The prison administration confirmed that the former official demonstrated reformation and took a path toward rehabilitation. Based on these findings, the courts of first and appellate instances approved his conditional release. The Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office attempted to appeal the ruling, but the Supreme Court rejected the petition because parole decisions are not subject to cassation review under Ukrainian law.
«The convict was employed in the facility’s sewing section, approached his work responsibly, and proved his rehabilitation,» noted a representative of the correctional facility.
As a reminder, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) found Anton Haidur guilty based on an investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). Detectives caught the judge red-handed while receiving a 15,000 UAH bribe in exchange for ruling in favor of a plaintiff in a civil lawsuit.
In addition to the five-year prison sentence, the HACC verdict included the full confiscation of Haidur’s personal property and a three-year ban on holding positions in state authorities.
