The family of Ukrainian People’s Deputy Volodymyr Areshonkov possesses luxury real estate and vehicles valued at tens of millions of hryvnias, registered under relatives whose official income cannot account for the purchases. The findings stem from a media investigation analyzing the financial assets and transactions of the lawmaker’s inner circle over recent years.
In July 2022, the lawmaker’s 88-year-old mother officially became the owner of a nearly 200-square-meter residential house and a 7-are land plot in the village of Vyshkovo, Zakarpattia region. Official land registry documents list the transaction price at just over 800,000 UAH, whereas real estate experts estimated the market value of the property at approximately $120,000 at the time.
Financial records indicate a significant discrepancy between the mother’s recorded income and the purchase price. Over the past 20 years, her total official income, including pension payments, amounted to roughly 300,000 UAH.
Responding to inquiries, Volodymyr Areshonkov stated that his mother financed the purchase using savings from past trading activities and financial assistance provided by his daughter residing in the United States. However, public business registries contain no official documentation confirming commercial activities capable of generating such revenue.
«Shortly after reporters began investigating the Vyshkovo property, ownership was transferred within less than two weeks to Maryna Kryvodubska, the mother-in-law of the lawmaker’s son. The transaction was notarized by an official notary who simultaneously serves as Areshonkov’s parliamentary assistant.»
The family’s assets extend beyond regional holdings into the capital’s property market. Between 2019 and 2023, relatives of the lawmaker’s son acquired six apartments in the high-end residential complex «Faina Town» in Kyiv. Conservative estimates place the total market value of the family’s capital real estate and vehicles at no less than 12 million UAH.
Additionally, journalists documented the lawmaker regularly using a luxury Lexus SUV that had not been included in his official electronic asset disclosures.
The exposure of the undisclosed assets coincides with scrutiny over the lawmaker’s voting record in the Verkhovna Rada. Areshonkov was among the parliamentarians who supported legislation that sought to curtail the operational independence of key anti-corruption agencies, namely the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
