National Bogomolets Medical University has once again found itself in the spotlight of corruption watchdogs and public scrutiny. Rector Yuriy Kuchyn has significantly upgraded his personal vehicle fleet with the acquisition of a flagship 2025 Honda CRF 1100 D4 motorcycle, valued at 819,000 UAH. The purchase comes alongside a major overhaul of his wife Kateryna Belka’s personal garage: replacing her Japanese crossover, she became the owner of a new German electric BMW iX1 worth 1.27 million UAH. These details emerged from the latest official asset declaration registry and notifications of significant changes in property status.
An analysis of the university head’s declarations over recent years shows a frequent rotation of vehicles accompanied by notable financial anomalies:
June 2022: A 2010 Honda CBF 600SA motorcycle valued at 49,000 UAH appeared in the declaration, which was later removed from ownership and omitted from annual reports.
June 2023: Kuchyn declared the purchase of a 2014 Honda VFR 800 sport bike for the exact same amount—49,000 UAH. Market analysts noted at the time that the actual market value of the model was approximately 320,000 UAH—nearly six times the declared price.
July 2025: Kateryna Belka registered a new 2024 BMW iX1 electric crossover for 1.272 million UAH. The purchase coincided with the sale of her previous 2019 Toyota RAV-4 Hybrid for 1.26 million UAH to buyer Alina Manokhina.
Vehicle in Use: Since July 2020, the rector has declared the right of use for a 2019 Toyota Hilux SUV formally registered to Oleksandr Ruban. No value is listed for the vehicle, though Kuchyn regularly uses it under Article 46 of the Law on Corruption Prevention.
Unlike their motor vehicle collection, the family’s real estate holdings have remained static in recent years, with no recorded purchases or sales since 2022.
The couple’s principal real estate assets remain clustered in the Kyiv suburbs:
Kriukivschyna: Land plots and residential houses acquired between 2016 and 2018. Co-owners include the rector, his son Oles, his mother Liudmyla Kuchyna, and his daughter Valentyna.
Vyshneve: A 66 sq. m apartment registered to his wife since 2018 (declared value at acquisition: 611,000 UAH).
Chernihiv: A 25% stake in an apartment held by his wife since 2002.
Income Streams: Dual Salaries and Millions via Sole Proprietorship
Rector Yuriy Kuchyn reported an official annual income exceeding 2.5 million UAH. His financial earnings stem from multiple sources:

Additionally, he earned 156,000 UAH from academic activities at the university, supplemented by secondary employment at private medical entities, including Capital LLC (324,000 UAH), Harmoniya Krasy LLC (313,000 UAH), and Dobrobut Clinic (10,000 UAH).»
His wife, Kateryna Belka, reported total earnings surpassing her husband’s declared salary. Her declared income includes:
757,000 UAH — primary salary at Bogomolets Medical University;
2.04 million UAH — income from sole proprietorship (FOP) activities;
Secondary income from pharmaceutical and medical organizations, including Berlin-Chemie, Yuria-Pharm, Ranbaxy, Kyivmedpreparat, and a local perinatal center;
1.26 million UAH — proceeds from the sale of her vehicle.
Additionally, she holds investment certificates in Inzhur LLC and four Ukrainian government bonds (OVDP).
The family holds substantial cash reserves and bank balances. Kuchyn personally declared 50,000 UAH, 5,000 EUR, and 3,000 USD in cash, along with 1.3 million UAH held at PrivatBank. His wife holds 22,000 EUR in cash reserves.
Notably, the expenditures section of the 2025 annual declaration remained blank, as the 1.27 million UAH BMW purchase was reported via a separate notice of material property changes.
Anti-corruption experts note that several elements within the filing could trigger a lifestyle monitoring review by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP). Primary concerns include the repeated declaration of motorcycles at a flat rate of 49,000 UAH despite much higher market values, long-term free usage of a third-party SUV, and sole proprietorship revenues generated by the rector’s spouse that exceed the base salary of a state university head.
