The head of the Kamin-Kashyrskyi district police department, Viacheslav Martyniuk, has been detained on suspicion of receiving an illegal benefit. The high-ranking law enforcement official was caught allegedly accepting a $2,700 bribe. A court has placed the suspect under 24-hour house arrest, and he has been officially suspended from his duties.
The high-profile corruption incident took place in the Volyn region. According to local residents cited by the «Avers» TV channel, the police chief was detained on June 23. The following day, June 24, authorities formally suspended Martyniuk from his position for the duration of the pre-trial investigation.
Preliminary reports indicate that the Kamin-Kashyrskyi police chief was extorting money from a local entrepreneur. The total bribe amounted to $2,700, calculated as a $900 «fee» for each of the businessman’s three fuel tankers to ensure unhindered operations in the district.
Viacheslav Martyniuk is a well-known figure within the law enforcement ecosystem of the Volyn oblast. Prior to his appointment as the head of the Kamin-Kashyrskyi district police, he held several senior management roles across the region.
