Following the recent government reshuffle and the high-profile events in Vyshneve, Herman Smetanin, the Director General of the Joint-Stock Company «Ukrainian Defense Industry» (formerly Ukroboronprom), has officially stepped down from his post. Following his resignation, the former top official filed his financial disclosure, revealing over 6 million UAH in annual income, luxury real estate rentals in Kyiv, a new SUV, and substantial cash holdings.
According to the official declaration, Herman Smetanin accumulated over 6 million UAH in total income during the reporting period. The vast majority of his earnings came from his high-level salaries:
JSC «Ukrainian Defense Industry»: 5.24 million UAH in salary.
Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine: 984,000 UAH.
Additionally, his wife, Anfisa Smetanina, reported 393,600 UAH in income from entrepreneurial activities. The former CEO also disclosed holding significant cash reserves, including $55,000 USD, €50,000 EUR, and 400,000 UAH.
The Smetanin family’s real estate portfolio spans both Kharkiv and the capital city of Kyiv:
Kharkiv: The family co-owns two apartments in Kharkiv—a 66 m² property acquired in 2003 and a 43.2 m² apartment acquired in 2007.
Kyiv: Since 2023, the family has been renting a spacious 235 m² apartment in the capital, along with a 15.6 m² parking space.
In 2023, Smetanin acquired a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 150, valued in his declaration at 1.9 million UAH. The family also utilizes a 2013 Hyundai ix35 owned by his father-in-law.
Among his largest recorded expenses, Smetanin declared spending 236,000 UAH on hotel accommodation in Switzerland in January 2025.
A Notable Entry in the Disclosure: In November 2025, Herman Smetanin made a charitable contribution of 467,500 UAH toward purchasing vehicles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
At this time, official representatives have not commented on the exact reasons behind Smetanin’s resignation or who will be appointed to lead the state defense giant next.
