  3. Family Affairs: Ex-Wife and Son of Uzhhorod Mayor Develop Luxury Real Estate as NACP Launches Conflict of Interest Probe

The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has launched an investigation into Uzhhorod Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv over a potential conflict of interest. The anti-corruption watchdog’s attention was drawn to a massive construction boom launched by the mayor’s family following the start of the full-scale invasion. Companies co-owned by the mayor’s ex-wife and son are currently developing several business-class residential complexes in Uzhhorod, including a major joint venture with business circles linked to Dnipro tycoon Hennadiy Korban.

The family’s most ambitious project is the construction of «Maverick,» a premium residential complex located on Slovatska Embankment, one of Uzhhorod’s most expensive real estate areas. The construction is being executed by two entities:
Maverick Development: Established in 2023 and registered to individuals reported by media to be close associates of Hennadiy Korban.
Maverick Development 2: Registered in November 2025, co-owned by the mayor’s ex-wife, Vlada Andriyiva, and his brother’s ex-wife. The mayor’s son serves as the company’s director.

The sole developer of the project is the Dnipro-based Daytona Group. This company previously faced public backlash over controversial developments in Dnipro, as well as a high-profile attempt to build over Kyiv’s Protasiv Yar reserve. That project was fiercely opposed by local activist Roman Ratushnyi, who was killed in action defending Ukraine in 2022.

Beyond the waterfront, the Andriyiv family is tied to several other major real estate developments across the city:
«Frantsuzkyi Dvir» (French Yard) RK: Built on the site of the former municipal printing house. In 2018, when the city council approved the demolition of the municipal asset, Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv publicly assured residents that the printing facility would remain operational. Instead, the building was demolished, and the mayor’s son has since represented the new residential complex at press conferences.
Shvabska Street Project: Located near the city center, this project is currently in the excavation phase. Permits were granted to «A1 Development,» a company where the mayor’s ex-wife and son are listed as co-owners.

Bohdan Andriyiv’s official asset declarations show virtually no business ownership or significant properties. This is due to his divorce from his businesswoman wife in 2024—just as the family’s real estate expansion began to accelerate.

However, investigative journalists suggest the divorce may be a sham to shield the mayor from scrutiny:

According to media reports, the former spouses continued to travel abroad together in 2025. Furthermore, the mayor of Uzhhorod currently enjoys free use of a car officially registered to one of his ex-wife’s companies.

Bohdan Andriyiv has led Uzhhorod for nearly 12 years. He began his career at the Zakarpattia Customs Service, rising to head the anti-smuggling department, before transitioning to private business. He returned to public service in 2006 as a city council deputy, representing the now-banned «Party of Regions.» He became acting mayor in 2014 and won the mayoral office in 2015.

During his tenure, Andriyiv has been the subject of several law enforcement investigations. He was previously indicted in a criminal case involving the embezzlement of budget funds earmarked for the reconstruction of the «Sovyne Gnizdo» (Owl’s Nest) historical center. That case was eventually dismissed because the statute of limitations had expired. The NACP’s current probe will determine whether a conflict of interest exists between the mayor’s official decisions and his family’s thriving construction empire.
