Drahobych Police Department Chief Vasyl Petryk was pulled over by patrol officers under suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The high-ranking official refused an on-site breathalyzer test, though subsequent hospital lab results revealed virtually no alcohol in his blood. The incident has drawn intense public scrutiny to the police chief and his financial assets.
The incident took place in Drahobych, Lviv Oblast. After patrol officers stopped Vasyl Petryk on suspicion of drunk driving, he refused to take a «Drager» breathalyzer test on the spot. He was subsequently transported to Drahobych City Hospital No. 1 for medical evaluation.
According to toxicological analysis of a blood sample drawn on July 17, the blood alcohol concentration in his system was 0.1‰. The official medical report concluded that there were no clinical signs of alcohol intoxication at the time of the examination.
In the wake of the incident, public attention shifted to the police chief’s electronic asset declaration. Records show that Petryk’s family maintains substantial cash savings despite reporting relatively modest property holdings.
Over the past year, the official earned 682,000 UAH in salary from the police department alongside 4,000 UAH in union benefits. His wife, who heads Local Preschool No. 15 «Lelechenka,» reported earnings of 204,000 UAH.
However, the family’s liquid assets have raised questions among observers:
The couple holds over $55,000 in cash—with $54,000 belonging personally to Vasyl Petryk. An additional 98,000 UAH is deposited in his PrivatBank account.
According to the same disclosure, the family owns no vehicles, securities, or corporate rights. The police chief resides with his wife and two daughters in a 67.7 sq. meter house in Drahobych, which is owned by a relative, presumably his father.
